Introduction - INITIAL STEPS

Since 1999, when The Horizon Foundation opened its doors, we have been involved in a step-wise progression to improve the health and wellness of Howard County, Maryland.

Our path began with a series of meetings throughout the county and meaningful encounters with hundreds of Howard County residents. Following extensive data analysis, focus groups and ongoing meetings with local and regional leaders, the Foundation's initial strategic plan was completed. And the plan has been updated annually, with input from the broad community, our Horizon Councils, as well as the Foundation's growing grantee community.

The Foundation's next steps move toward the vision of Howard County becoming the healthiest community in the nation. We have informed this movement by pinpointing community needs, creating strategies with nonprofit and public partners to meet those needs, and staying the course in following through and evaluating effectiveness. We invite you to join us as this ambitious agenda unfolds.
