Leadership - The Horizon Foundation Honors Outstanding Citizens

Richard G. McCauley, past Chair of The Horizon Foundation Board of Trustees and Henry Posko

Humanim, Inc. President and CEO Henry E. Posko, Jr. was named winner of the Richard G. McCauley Leadership Award at the 2nd Annual Horizon Awards Breakfast on May 26. The award is named in honor of The Horizon Foundation's first Board Chair.

"Henry is a man of character and vision," Richard Krieg said to the 100 well-wishers at the awards presentation. "He is a practical man, a good manager and an entrepreneur, boldly and confidently taking risks on behalf of the people he serves."

Howard County General Hospital was recognized for "its innovative prevention programs including health screenings and fairs and ongoing partnerships with the Howard County Public School System and an array of targeted projects with the nonprofit community," said Horizon Board Member Shirley D. Collier.

Four Oakland Mills High School graduating seniors, Cherise Carpenter, Monica Holloway, Kimberly Sealey and Jade Vaughn, were cited for two years of research, planning, lobbying and testifying in Annapolis trying to increase the number of bone marrow donors by eliminating a prohibition on donors younger than 18.

Horizon Board Member Malynda Hawes Madzel presented the awards to the young women, calling them "remarkable" and predicting "wonderful futures ahead of them."

A special Community Appreciation Award was presented to Alton J. and Hillery Scavo in recognition of "over three decades of leadership, service and substantial accomplishments on behalf of the people of Howard County."
