From the President and CEO
Severe economic
pressures caused repercussions for the
county’s nonprofit sector in 2008. Many
nonprofit organizations providing health and
human services were impacted by cutbacks from
funders — coupled with delayed payments and a
tightening credit market that limited access to
credit. The economic downturn was
accompanied by increasing demand for services.
As a funder, the Foundation worked with our grantees through this difficult period. Through its responsive, capacity and proactive programs, the we continued to pursue our mission of improving the health and wellness of the Howard County population.
As a cost saving measure, we are providing this annual report in digital form only via our website. We encourage you to read the grants section of this report for a description of our grants as well as the Foundation’s financials for 2008.
