Health Center to Serve Uninsured
Sunday, February 12, 2006
(Maryland News, Howard County) --
A new health center for uninsured and
underinsured Howard County residents will be
coming to Columbia in July.
The
center, in the Knoll North Building in Oakland
Mills village, will have
eight examination rooms. The facility
will offer dental, mental
health services and treatment for victims of
substance abuse.
"This
new facility is a major milestone in meeting
the health care needs of
thousands of ...residents," said Richard Krieg,
president and chief
executive officer of the Horizon
Foundation.
The center is a
partnership between the Horizon Foundation,
Chase Brexton Health
Services Inc. and the Maryland Community Health
Center.
Krieg
said the center will benefit the Health
Alliance, a free clinic in
Columbia that focuses on the medical needs of
300 people.
"Now we are going to move
into treating thousands, and this is really the
first time we can offer this," Krieg
said.
Krieg said he is confident that
other organizations will work with the center
in fulfilling the needs of county
residents.
"What
you're going to see is that all the nonprofit
organizations will rise
to the occasion and integrate what they do with
the clinic, and there
will be tremendous community support for the
center," he said.
