Volunteers, Backers of Winter Shelter to be Recognized

Sunday, May 9, 2004

(The Baltimore Sun) -- County Executive James Robey and Susan Rosenbaum, director of the Howard County Department of Citizens, held an appreciation reception to recognize the volunteers, congregations and supporters who staffed the county's first cold-weather shelter this winter, providing food and warm beds to homeless individuals and families. Eight churches contributed space, meals and volunteers for the impromptu shelters. The program, which was also supported by The Horizon Foundation and county government, served people who could not be accommodated at Grassroots Crisis and Intervention in Columbia. Sixty-one people, ages 6 months to 63 years, were served during the winter.
