$273,000 To Be Donated for Health Programs
Wednesday, August 29, 2007
(Baltimore Sun) --
The Horizon Foundation was to give Howard
County officials a check for $273,000 for
health department programs today at Oakland
Manor in Columbia.
Most of the money,
$200,000, is to help pay for planning in case a
flu pandemic strikes.
"Countywide
pandemic planning is critical, as it will
enable us to upgrade readiness for the most
profound health challenge that the county may
face," Richard M. Krieg, Horizon's president
and chief executive officer, said in a
statement.
In addition, $42,000 will pay
for marketing and research for health officer
Peter L. Beilenson's Healthy Howard program to
improve the health of county residents in a
variety of ways.
The final $31,000 is to
pay for the transfer of administering a group
of more than 50 doctors and other health
professionals who have volunteered to help
first responders in an emergency. The group is
called the Medical Reserve
Corps.
Horizon is a $92 million
foundation dedicated to health and wellness
issues.
