Horizon Elects New Board Members

Horizon Foundation president and CEO Richard
Krieg has announced the
election of five new members to the
Foundation's Board of Trustees.
Howard County's largest philanthropy, The
Horizon Foundation addresses
community health issues through strategic
grants, community programs and
partnerships with private and public
institutions.
The new board members are Guillermo Birmingham, Glenn Falcao, Steve Gershman, Lynne Hall Quinn and Marianne Ross.
Birmingham is director of administration at the Pan American Health Organization, where he oversees information technology, financial resource management, human resources, general services, and procurement and supply management. Before joining the Pan American Health Organization, he was deputy CFO and chief compliance officer at CHF International.
A retired Air Force colonel, Birmingham served in the military for 26 years and received numerous awards and decorations.
Falcao is president of Falcao Investment Group. He is a former partner with Bessemer Venture Partners and executive vice president of Corvis Corporation, an optical networking company. The founder of the Indian American Chamber of Commerce, Falcao also serves on the boards of Partners in Excellence for the Archdiocese of Baltimore and the Mortel Foundation, which builds schools in Haiti.
Gershman is a CPA and shareholder with Katz Abosch, specializing in accounting, auditing, management services and personal financial planning. He is also an adjunct instructor at Howard Community College. Gershman is active in a number of civic organizations and currently serves on the Foundation's Investment Committee.
Quinn is the marketing director of Exit 24, LLC, which produces Goodie Books, gift books sold on the Internet and at local specialty gift shops. She has extensive experience as a freelance film and video producer in the Baltimore/Washington area and has produced television commercials for a variety of clients. She is the volunteer director of Youth Ministries, Mission and Outreach at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Glenwood.
Ross is a senior veterinary epidemiologist with the U.S. Public Health Service. She earned a Master of Public Health degree from Johns Hopkins University and has completed the Public Health Service's Emergency Response Training. She responded to both Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. She has published numerous articles on public health topics.
The Horizon Foundation was established in 1998 as a result of the merger of Johns Hopkins Medicine with Howard County General Hospital. Its mission is to promote and enhance community health and wellness in Howard County.
The Foundation's current initiatives include assessing and implementing strategies aimed at improving physical activity, healthful eating and other positive lifestyle changes; implementing the Southeast Health Initiative, which focuses on improving the determinants of health and wellness in southeastern Howard County; and working towards improving the efficiency and effectiveness of individual health and human service agencies and the overall service delivery system.
