(Philanthropy News Digest) -- The Horizon Foundation in Columbia, Maryland, has announced the appointment of NICOLETTE HIGHSMITH VERNICK as president and CEO, effective March 1. Highsmith Vernick, a nationally recognized expert on publicly financed healthcare, is currently senior vice president for program at the Center for Health Care Strategies in Hamilton, New Jersey. She will succeed founding president and CEO Richard M. Krieg, who is retiring after thirteen years.
