The Howard County Medical Reserve Corps is seeking medical and health professionals to volunteer on local emergency response teams.

Volunteers would assist during major regional emergencies, including hurricanes, floods, acts of terrorism, chemical or hazardous material spills and epidemics such as the flu.

The Medical Reserve Corps, which was created in 2002 in response to the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, is recruiting physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, veterinarians, epidemiologists, infectious disease specialists, mental health professionals, therapists and social workers.

Volunteers' duties could include working in immunization clinics, providing health-related phone consultations, contributing to health education efforts and assisting in the event of a terroist attack or outbreak of an infectious disease.
