The Columbia Foundation Awarded $10K Horizon Grant for Legacy Study
Saturday, July 1, 2006
(The Business Monthly) --
The Columbia Foundation, Howard County's
community foundation, has received a $10,000
grant from The Horizon Foundation to commission
a study of how to encourage Howard County
individuals and families to leave a portion of
their estates to local nonprofit
organizations.
By adding a charitable
bequest to their wills, donors and volunteers
can help ensure the future stability of these
groups, establish a legacy and keep wealth
within the community. Jean Moon &
Associates, which completed "Portrait of
Philanthropy: The Capacity for Individual
Giving in Howard County" in 2005, will conduct
the study to learn why donors do or do not make
bequests and how financial professions in our
county handle the topic.
