Friday, July 7, 2006

(The Sun in Howard) -- Medical and health professionals are needed to serve as volunteers in the Howard County Medical Reserve Corps.

Physicians, nurses, pharmacists, infectious-disease specialists, epidemiologists, dentists, veterinarians and other professionals are also being sought.

The volunteers will support local emergency response teams in the event of a major natural or manmade disaster in the region, such as chemical or hazardous materials spills, flu and other epidemics, hurricanes, floods and acts of terrorism.  Some volunteers can offer support by phone consultation.

The volunteers should be prepared to help family, friends and neighbors in an emergency.  They may receive training on state-of-the-art health topics and can earn continuing education credits.
