A Look at Estate Giving

(Howard Extra) -- The Columbia Foundation has received a $10,000 grant to study how to encourage Howard County individuals and families to leave a portion of their estates to local nonprofit organizations.

The study will look at why individuals do or do not make bequests and how financial advisers in the county handle the topic.  The foundation will then develop strategies that nonprofit organizations can use to garner bequests from their volunteers and potential donors.

The foundation received the grant from the Horizon Foundation.  Jean Moon & Associates will conduct the study.
