Horizon Foundation Hosts Annual Council Luncheon
Tuesday, August 1, 2006
(The Business Monthly) --
The Horizon Foundation held its 4th Annual
Council Luncheon in July. Attending were
representatives of the Elkridge, Ellicott City,
Southeast and Western councils, which serve as
the "eyes and ears" of the foundation in those
communities.
The councils meet monthly
to discuss issues of interest and concern in
the areas they represent. Members are
drawn from local institutions, such as public
schools, faith communities, law enforcement and
health, as well as civic groups.
Initiatives include programs for middle school
students and their parents, health expos and
support for local nonprofits.
The annual
luncheon features a year-end recap of
activities by members of each council.
Speakers included Glenwood Branch librarian
Susan Stonesifer of the Western Horizon
Council, community activist Vidia Dhanraj of
Southeast Horizon Council, Dace Blaumanis of
the Elkridge Horizon Council and new Mt. Hebron
High School graduate Chris Rodkey of the
Ellicott City Council.
The councils
resume meeting in September when they will
tackle such issues as the relationship between
young people and adults in the community,
neighborhood emergency preparedness and health
services for foreign-born residents.
