Services at the Center have expanded to include counseling, legal assistance, information and referral, immigrant services, and food, energy and housing assistance. The Center has also expanded its operations and will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, starting July 18.
"North Laurel-Savage and the Route 1 Corridor have long been identified as an area in Howard County where a great demand for human services exists,” said County Executive Ken Ulman. “Now there will be this ‘one-stop-shop’ where area residents can receive the services they need. We hope that this co-location of services is a great success and can serve as a pilot that we can use in other areas of Howard County."
Foundation President Richard Krieg said, “this new iteration of the Center was made possible by the County Executive’s strong support for human services and the leadership of Susan Rosenbaum, Director of the Department of Citizen Services.” He added that, “we are grateful to our Southeast Horizon Council for their idea to create such a center and their steadfast work over the years to make it work.”
Funding for the Center is being provided by Howard County Department of Citizen Services, The Horizon Foundation, and the Columbia Foundation.
“We are really excited about this pilot venture and plan to bring high-quality human services to residents of Howard County who otherwise would not receive our collective services,” said James B. Smith, President of the Community Action Council. “Each agency is committed to helping people who are in need of services, and the Center allows us to have an even greater impact as a collective unit.”
