HorizonHelp.org and
211md.org Merge
Visitors to HorizonHelp.org, The Horizon Foundation’s comprehensive database of health and community services, will be redirected to 211md.org, effective April 1, 2010.
The United Way operates
211md.org, which serves the entire
state.
“It made sense to combine these
resources,” said Horizon Foundation President
and CEO Richard Krieg. “Now people in search
of services and information will find
everything they need statewide in one
place.”
HorizonHelp’s database has been migrated
to 211md.org, and the
transition will be seamless for both service
providers and users.
Research for HorizonHelp began in 2000 when
Krieg convened county leaders from the
Association of Community Services and the
county library, Office of Citizens Services,
Office on Aging, Office of Children's Services
and the Coalition of Geriatric Services met to
collaborate on the first comprehensive
Web-based information and referral system for
human and social services in Howard
County. The system has been upgraded on
an annual basis since then and has served as an
online source for the public, school
counselors, health providers, discharge
planners and many others.
Since its launch in summer 2001,
HorizonHelp has seen thousands of visitors
seeking information on everything from utility
assistance and resources for older adults to
services for the Hispanic community.
All of these resources, plus hundreds of
additional regional service providers, are
available at 211md.org.
Horizon’s Spanish language version of
HorizonHelp will remain at its current
location, www.scribd.com/doc/20642198/Servicios-en-Espanol-Para-Residentes-del-Condado-de-Howard-Maryland.
United Way's 211md.org is the online
component to the statewide 211 non-emergency,
health and human service information system.
It’s accessible in more than 150 languages
24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The Horizon Foundation, Howard County’s
largest philanthropy, addresses community
health issues through strategic grants,
community programs and partnerships with
private and public institutions.
