Rosimar Meléndez has
joined The Horizon Foundation staff as Senior
Staff Associate. She comes to the Foundation
from the United Way of Central Maryland, where
she was Regional Director for Howard and Anne
Arundel Counties.
A native of Puerto
Rico, Meléndez is a graduate of Eckerd College
in St. Petersburg, FL.
In her new job,
Meléndez will oversee the Foundation’s
responsive grantmaking programs, serve as a
resource to the nonprofit community and assist
Foundation President Richard Krieg with program
planning and evaluation.
Krieg said, "Rosimar brings an excellent
skill set to us in every phase of proposal
review and grant program management.
Given demographic changes in our county, I’m
also thrilled that she is a native Spanish
speaker."
"Rosimar has been a member of
our local funder’s group, so I’ve worked
with her on key issues involving mutual
grantees," he added. "She comes to us
with excellent knowledge of the local service
delivery system as well as individual
nonprofits."
At the United Way,
Meléndez oversaw fundraising, grants and
volunteer management, community relations and
marketing, and public relations for both Howard
and Anne Arundel Counties. She also led,
managed and assigned a portfolio of corporate
accounts totaling over $4
million.
Before joining the United Way,
she was Director of the Women’s Business
Center in Fayetteville, NC, an agency that
helps local entrepreneurs start or expand small
or home-based businesses. One of her
accomplishments there was securing a grant to
start a microlending program.
She has
also been Marketing and Communications Director
for the United Way of Cumberland County in
Fayetteville, Public Relations Director/Account
Executive at Hodges Associates in Fayetteville,
Fund Development and Public Relations Director
for the Girl Scouts of Concharty Council in
Columbus, GA and a Market Research Analyst for
the Department of the Army’s Marketing
Division in Vicenza, Italy.
Meléndez lives in Laurel with
her husband, Enrique, a US Army Major and
Ranger assigned to the Asymmetric Warfare Group
at Fort Meade, and their 11-year-old daughter
Lyanne.
The Horizon
Foundation, Howard County’s largest
philanthropy, addresses community health issues
through strategic grants, community programs
and partnerships with private and public
institutions.
