Horizon Foundation Announces $260,000 In Grants

The Horizon Foundation today announced the
award of $260,000 in Strategic Initiative
Program (SIP) grants to local organizations and
agencies in the nonprofit and public
sectors. The awards are intended to
stimulate positive changes in major health and
wellness issues that affect Howard Countians.
Among the grants is one for $24,400 to
help fund a newly created Volunteer Coordinator
position at The Arc of Howard County and
another, for $20,609, to support the creation
of a part-time Volunteer Coordinator for
Neighbor Ride, the local organization that is
currently helping 400 seniors with
transportation to medical and other
appointments via volunteer
drivers.
Another grant, for $37,000,
will fund communication and automation services
and supports for Grassroots Crisis Intervention
Center while it is temporarily housed at Taylor
Manor during the renovation and expansion of
its aging facility on Freetown Road in
Columbia.
