
Sugar Free Kids Maryland is a diverse coalition working to protect Maryland children from Type 2 diabetes, heart disease and tooth decay so they can live long, healthy lives. The Horizon Foundation is a lead partner along with MedChi, The Maryland State Medical Society; the American Heart Association; NAACP Maryland State Conference; Maryland Association of Student Councils; and 1199 SEIU.
The coalition is made up of more than 250 diverse health, faith, youth and community organizations that work to make healthy food and drink more widely available at the state and local level. Sugar Free Kids has successfully advocated for policy changes including state legislation to promote healthy drinks and breastfeeding at licensed child care providers and local legislation in Howard, Montgomery and Prince George’s counties that expands access to healthy snacks and drinks in vending machines on county property.
