Join us TOMORROW for How Far We’ve Come: Elevating Mental Health Together
Conversations about mental health in our community have never been more important. From expanding local and regional crisis services to ensuring ALL Howard County students can access mental health supports in their schools, we’ve certainly come a long way. But many in our community continue to suffer, and much work remains. Join us TOMORROW evening – with special guest speaker Mike Locksley, University of Maryland Head Football Coach – to honor all of our partners who are committed to advancing mental health causes in Howard County and beyond. Policy change for public health
The Maryland General Assembly just wrapped up its annual legislative session, and it was a banner year for public health! From funding for mental health crisis services to expanding prenatal care to protecting local health officers to making advance care planning more accessible, policy changes are coming that will make our communities healthier and more equitable. At the same time, Howard County’s proposed FY 2023 budget includes robust funding for students’ mental health, maternity care and complete streets. The Foundation (and hopefully you!) will continue to advocate for full funding for these initiatives.
What’s working in advance care planning?
Since creating the Speak(easy) Howard initiative in 2016, we have learned a great deal about successful strategies organizations can use to encourage their communities to name health care agents. We have also learned that health care agent initiatives provide countless benefits for organizations. In honor of National Health Care Decisions Day 2022, we created a free overview on best practices in leading a health care agent initiative for hospitals, nonprofits and foundations. Let’s build what’s next for Howard County
Howard County has been ranked in the top 10 healthiest counties in the U.S. – but our health took a hit these past two years. At the same time, rates of diabetes and prediabetes are rising. The Healthier Choices Coalition believes we can make change happen in Howard County – change that will make healthier food and drink more widely available, accessible and affordable for our neighbors, families and friends. Join us to help build a healthier future for our community.
