Our community summit is officially sold out!

Our community summit, Reimagining Good Health for All: Dismantling Systemic Racism in Howard County, featuring award-winning journalist and storyteller Soledad O’Brien, is officially sold out! Thank you so much for the incredible response to this event. We can’t wait to see you all on April 29 to discuss how we can work together to build a healthier, more equitable Howard County.

Miss out on a spot for this event? There are still opportunities to work with us and have your voice heard in the coming months before the Foundation launches its new strategic plan later this year. Learn more about our strategic planning process and get in touch with us with your thoughts about how we can make good health achievable for all.

It’s budget season, Howard County!

The FY 2024 budget season is in full swing! Howard County Executive Calvin Ball recently released his proposed capital and operating budgets for the next year. We’re pleased to see great investments proposed to improve public health in our community.

One highlight is a NEW RECORD $12+ million for bike and pedestrian infrastructure projects and complete streets in our community. If approved, this funding will further advance critical projects along Dobbin Road, US Route 1, Elkridge Main Street, Guilford Road and MD 108, among others.

Next up: the budget now heads to the Howard County Council for revision and approval. We must keep up the pressure to ensure full funding for these projects remains in the final budget. Send your message to the Howard County Council to protect this funding to make our roads, intersections, sidewalks and paths safer for us to walk and bike!

Victories for public health from Annapolis

The 2023 Maryland General Assembly session is officially a wrap! The Horizon Foundation and its statewide partners were busy this year, supporting scores of bills that would bolster the state’s mental health and behavioral health care system, improve access to quality, affordable health insurance, support our health care workforce and promote health equity in Maryland. Check out our blog to read about the bills supported by the Foundation that are headed to Governor Moore’s desk.

THANK YOU to all of our statewide partners and community members who worked so hard this session and raised their voices in support of improving our health care system and health equity in our state.
