Don’t miss out! Register now for our community summit!
We are thrilled at the response so far for our community summit, Reimagining Good Health for All: Dismantling Systemic Racism in Howard County, on Saturday, April 29. Our optional breakout sessions are officially SOLD OUT, but tickets still remain to see our keynote speaker, award-winning journalist and storyteller Soledad O’Brien!
Come join us to discuss what it will take to ensure everyone has the ability to live long, healthy lives. Let’s work together to build a healthier, more equitable Howard County.
In case you missed it: The kids aren’t alright. Tiffani Peguese is trying to change that.
Having dedicated her career to working with youth, Howard County educator Tiffani Peguese was noticing some worrying themes in how students were talking about themselves and their lives. It was clear that many students of hers were dealing with trauma but did not have the tools to express their emotions in a healthy way – causing them to struggle behaviorally and academically as a result. With this growing crisis of youth mental health, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, Peguese applied for the Horizon Foundation’s first-ever Advancing Community Advocacy Fellowship in 2020. Working with Foundation staff, Peguese learned about topics like mobilizing and organizing, and helped establish the Mental Health Matters Coalition to advocate for school-based mental health supports for students. Thanks in large part to her work, this program is now expanding to every public school in Howard County.
