September 2025 Newsletter: A note from Nikki, Election Rules webinar, Food Insecurity Town Hall and more!

A note from Nikki

Rest, Reflection and Renewal: Leadership Lessons from a Sabbatical. “This summer, I had the privilege of stepping away from my role as President & CEO of Horizon Foundation for a three-month sabbatical. What began as a plan to recharge with family quickly became something much deeper — a powerful period of reflection, learning and renewal. I returned with fresh energy and several lessons that I believe are not just personal, but meaningful for my leadership and for the Foundation’s work ahead.”

Check out this month’s blog to read Nikki’s full reflection on her sabbatical and the energy and deeper sense of purpose that she is bringing with her in her return to Horizon.

Save the Date: Election Rules Webinar

It’s officially election season in Maryland. Many candidates have already declared their intent to run for public office. But if you work for a non-profit, there are some key “dos and don’ts” to consider if you want to legally engage with candidates for office and otherwise educate voters about important issues. Come to this interactive webinar on Tuesday, November 4th from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. to learn the election year rules for your non-profit organization and how they apply to you as an employee or a board member. You will hear from Allen Mattison, a partner at Trister, Ross, Schadler & Gold who helps nonprofit organizations (including the Horizon Foundation) to mitigate legal risks while maximizing their ability to advocate effectively for their public-policy missions. Registration will open soon!

A successful Food Insecurity Town Hall!
